I ended up in Terre Haute Indiana for graduate school. It was a trying time, but I kept seeing Facebook post about a cupcake shop that had just opened. Everyone was raving about it. One day I was driving to the grocery store and spotted the shop and decided to stop. It was one of those small decisions that changes everything. Because it was owned by Susan.
Over the next couple of months I would go in occasionally for a treat and talk to Susan. I found out that she was a potter who put fire crackers in clay and blew it up. She would fire the pots with out altering the explosion. She was fun and creative and would laugh at the slightest things. We talked and laughed about some of the things going on in our lives. Then unexpectedly I received an invite to her Halloween party and suddenly I realized we had become friends.
Over the next ten years we kept in touch. Some years more than others, but like real friends it doesn’t matter. When we meet it is like no time has passed. I decided to go to a party that she was having at her house. I walked in and there was a group of musicians jamming in the front room. In the middle was Susan playing her cello. As I sat listening to every one play I started to think about how this cello really reflected Susan’s personalty and I decided I needed to do a fine art cello oil painting.
